A map is a map, unless you make a paper plane.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt spoke words of true inspiration. But, beyond that, her passion for equality in human rights and later in women rights is why I am able to sit here and chase my dreams.

Mrs. Roosevelt considered her work on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to be her most important accomplishment, and once said,

“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home – so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps o the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm, or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”

I believe we are grateful to have the opportunities we do.  Whether it is because of our country, our family, our education, or our talent, we are fortunate.  We should be appreciative and gracious, and we should make the most of what life has given us. Life has given us each a different foundation and it’s what we do with that foundation that makes us who we are.  We can be good. We can be great. We can be amazing. It’s up to us.

It’s not about how much life gives to you….it’s about what you do with it.

Tonight my inspiration is a map…

Because I truly believe we all start on different paths, and we all have different hurdles to face. Some of us face dust and some of us face giants, but in the end, we can all reach our destination, our dreams, we just have to make the most of the path we’ve been put on.

Maps often remind me that no matter where you are in the world, you can dream. And no matter where you are on your path, you can chase them.

It’s not about how much life gives to you….it’s about what you do with it.
